Connectors are engineered products. The model number on the plan is not a suggestion, and the fastener schedule that comes with it is part of the rating.
Start with the callout
The plan or truss drawing names the connector. Substituting a similar-looking hanger with a different load rating voids the engineering, and it is the first thing an inspector checks on a framing inspection.
Fill every hole the schedule requires
A hanger rated for a given load assumes a specific nail or screw in a specific set of holes. Short-nailing a hanger is the most common field error we see, and it is invisible once the drywall is up.
Match the coating to the environment
Interior dry framing takes standard galvanized. Exterior, treated lumber, and anything near the coast or a pool needs the heavier ZMAX or stainless equivalents. We stock both — ask at the counter which the plan requires.
Talk it through with us
Bring your plans, sketches, or photos to any of our four Central Michigan yards. We will walk the options with you, pull real samples, and put together a material list you can build from. Estimating is free for any project.
