Countertops are the surface people touch most and judge fastest. All three of the common choices are good products; they just fail in different ways.
Quartz
Engineered stone, non-porous, no sealing, and very hard to stain. It is the premium choice in most kitchens. Avoid setting hot pans directly on it and keep it out of full-sun exposure on an outdoor bar.
Solid surface
Seamless, repairable, and easy to shape into integrated sinks and curves. It scratches more readily than quartz but sands back out, which is why it holds up so well over fifteen years of daily use.
Laminate
Today's laminate is not your grandmother's laminate. Modern decors with edge profiles look sharp, cost a fraction of stone, and are ideal for laundry rooms, workshops, and budget-conscious kitchens.
