Trim is the quietest way a house tells you whether it was designed or assembled. A small, consistent set of profiles beats a different look in every room.
Pick three profiles and stop
One baseboard, one casing, one crown, used everywhere. Vary the scale between rooms if you must, but keep the profile family the same so transitions through a doorway do not fight.
Get the proportions right
As a starting point, baseboard is taller than casing is wide, and crown is sized to ceiling height. Eight-foot ceilings rarely carry a heavy crown well; nine feet and up can.
