Every window carries an NFRC label with four numbers. Two of them decide how the window will actually feel in January.
U-factor: how much heat escapes
Lower is better. It measures how readily heat moves through the whole assembly, glass and frame together. In our climate, a lower U-factor is the number worth paying for.
SHGC: how much solar heat gets in
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient runs from 0 to 1. A moderate to higher SHGC on south-facing glass is free winter heat in Michigan. A lower SHGC helps on big west-facing windows that cook in August.
Do not orient every window the same
It is perfectly reasonable to spec different glass packages by elevation. We can price it that way and label the units so the crew installs them in the right walls.
Talk it through with us
Bring your plans, sketches, or photos to any of our four Central Michigan yards. We will walk the options with you, pull real samples, and put together a material list you can build from. Estimating is free for any project.
